Walsall FC’s Academy continues to make significant strides in player development, offering young talents a structured pathway into professional football. With a strong focus on growth, education, and opportunity, the club has implemented several initiatives to enhance the academy experience. Here’s a look at the latest developments from Walsall FC’s Academy.

 

Academy Alumni Project: Strengthening Club Ties

 

In a bid to foster lifelong connections between former academy players and the club, Walsall FC launched the Academy Alumni Project in October 2024. This initiative allows past players to remain engaged with Walsall FC through networking, support, and future opportunities within the club’s ecosystem. By creating this structured alumni network, Walsall ensures that players continue to feel part of the Saddlers family even after moving on to different stages of their careers.

 

FA Youth Cup Performance: A Tough Battle

 

Walsall FC’s U18 side recently competed in the first round of the FA Youth Cup, facing Chesterfield away. Despite a strong effort.

Walsall FC’s Academy continues to focus on developing young talent through various initiatives:

Academy Alumni Project

In October 2024, Walsall FC introduced the “Academy Alumni Project” to help players stay connected with the club after they leave the academy. This initiative ensures that every academy graduate can maintain a lasting bond with Walsall FC.

FA Youth Cup Performance

In the 1st round of the FA Youth Cup, Walsall U18s were drawn away to Chesterfield. The FA Youth Cup journey came to an end for Walsall after a first-round loss 0–1 away to Chesterfield.

Talented & Gifted Development Centres

The Walsall FC Foundation’s Talented & Gifted (T&G) Development Centres offer football sessions coached in an exclusive environment by professional coaches. With proven pathways into the Walsall FC Academy, this program is ideal for progressing a football career. Sessions occur twice per week on the 4G Astroturf from 5 pm to 6 pm.

Coaching Assessments and Trials

Aspiring players can apply for a coaching assessment within the T&G centres. The assessment lasts approximately three weeks and is free of charge. Based on performance, players may be offered a trial at the Walsall FC Academy, a squad place in the T&G Centre, or alternative sessions to continue their development.

Post-16 Football & Education Program

For players aged 16-19, the Walsall FC Foundation offers a two-year course combining football development with education. Participants have opportunities to train and play alongside the Walsall FC Academy, accelerating their development and understanding of the game.

These programs and initiatives underscore Walsall FC’s commitment to nurturing young talent and providing clear pathways for progression within the club.
