Lindgren is playing through injury, and it shows—he has not been the same dominant presence he once was. Similarly, Miller’s inconsistent play has raised concerns about his readiness for the next level. With a defensive core that still has mobility issues, this could pose a major challenge against faster, more skilled teams like the Canadiens.
2. Lack of a Clear Team Identity

While they have one of the best goaltenders in Igor Shesterkin, relying on him to bail out the team each game is not a sustainable strategy. The Rangers have yet to establish a consistent style of play, whether it’s physicality, speed, or defensive lockdown. They often appear disjointed, which was evident in their struggles against weaker opponents. If they are to succeed against a high-energy team like Montreal, they will need to find their identity—whether that’s being more physical, playing a quicker transition game, or finding a way to dominate possession.
3. Underperforming Top Players
The Rangers’ top players, especially Mika Zibanejad and Vincent Trocheck, have not been performing at the expected level. Zibanejad, in particular, has struggled with consistency, and this has impacted the team’s offensive output. Trocheck, while contributing last season, has not shown the same energy this year. These two players must find their game and contribute more consistently to ensure the Rangers don’t become overly reliant on secondary scoring.
With these issues at hand, the Rangers must address these flaws quickly if they are to stay competitive in their upcoming games.
