Renowned musician and poet Nick Cave has announced the release of his latest album, Lazarus Moon, a deeply personal and reflective work dedicated to his late son, Jethro Lazenby. Scheduled for release on September 15, 2025, the album is said to be one of Cave’s most emotionally charged and introspective records to date.
In a heartfelt statement, Cave shared the inspiration behind Lazarus Moon, describing it as “a meditation on loss, love, and the fragile thread that connects us to those who have gone before us.” The album follows in the footsteps of Ghosteen and Carnage, both of which explored themes of grief and transcendence, but Cave has hinted that this record carries a more ethereal and dreamlike quality, as if “Jethro himself was whispering through the music.”
Jethro Lazenby, Cave’s eldest son, tragically passed away in May 2022 at the age of 31. His death came just years after the loss of Cave’s younger son, Arthur, in 2015. The weight of these losses has profoundly shaped Cave’s artistic output, with Lazarus Moon serving as a kind of spiritual dialogue between father and son.
Early descriptions of the album suggest a haunting yet uplifting soundscape, blending Cave’s signature baritone with sweeping orchestral arrangements and minimalist piano compositions.
