Collingwood Football Club’s head coach, Craig McRae, has been issued a formal warning by the Australian Football League (AFL) following an incident during a recent game against Greater Western Sydney (GWS), not Charlton
.¹ The warning comes after McRae was involved in a verbal exchange with GWS coach Adam Kingsley, where McRae yelled “well done” to GWS player Toby Bedford after he gave away a free kick.²
The AFL investigated the incident and decided not to impose any further sanctions on McRae, aside from the formal warning. McRae has since apologized for his actions, acknowledging that he was “selfish” and allowed his frustration to get the better of him.³

McRae’s warning comes after a similar incident involving Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley, who was fined $20,000 for his heated exchange with Hawthorn players during a semi-final match last year.
In response to the warning, McRae has vowed to be a better role model and to protect his players in a more measured way. He has also expressed his respect for Adam Kingsley and the GWS team, despite the verbal exchange during the game.
