The Toronto Maple Leafs have bolstered their forward ranks by signing 20-year-old right-winger Borya Valis to a three-year, entry-level contract, with the deal set to commence in the 2025-26 season.

Valis has been a standout performer in the Western Hockey League (WHL) this season, playing for the Prince George Cougars. In 57 games, he has amassed 73 points, comprising 29 goals and 44 assists. This remarkable scoring streak has established him as the Cougars’ all-time single-season point leader among American-born players

Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds, Valis brings a blend of size, skill, and versatility to the ice. His performance has not gone unnoticed; he was named the WHL’s Player of the Month for February 2025, reflecting his consistent excellence.

Before joining the Cougars, Valis spent time with the Regina Pats, contributing significantly to their offensive efforts. Over his WHL career, he has accumulated 216 points, including 86 goals and 130 assists, across 236 regular-season games. In the postseason, he has added 13 points—nine goals and four assists—in 15 games, aiding the Cougars’ advancement to the third round of the 2024 WHL Playoffs.

Maple Leafs’ Head Coach and General Manager, Mark Lamb, praised Valis’s work ethic and growth, stating, “He came here with a mindset to get better every day and have an open mindset on trusting the process and coaching. He’s a great example of what it takes to be a pro.”
