Every artist usually has that one act that truly ignites their passion early on. It’s one thing to enjoy a band’s music, but when that one musician came into their life, everything changed the moment they took off their headphones. Eric Clapton, despite easily citing “the blues” as his favorite genre, considered Muddy Waters to be one of his biggest early influences.
Unlike many other rock guitarists before and after him, Clapton remained deeply rooted in the blues. Although albums like *Slowhand* showcased his growth as a songwriter, the essence of his sound was always about channeling legends like B.B. King and Robert Johnson into a contemporary form.
While Johnson and King were known for their expressive guitar work, no one conveyed authority quite like Muddy Waters.
