Could Mike Evans Make History Again This Fall?
We should witness NFL history again this year.
Bucs iconic wide receiver Mike Evans has never played in less than 13 games in a season. And since 2018 he has caught at least six touchdowns per year.
So just based on that, Evans will become a more legendary receiver sometime this season.
Evans ranks 13th all-time in touchdown catches with 94. Old-school Bucs fans should understand how jarring that statistic is. If Evans just gets six touchdown catches, he will become only the 11th receiver in the 105 years the NFL has existed to catch 100 touchdown passes (provided Davante Adams doesn’t beat him there — Adams currently has 95).
With just six touchdown catches, Evans will move into a three-way tie for ninth place in NFL history with Tim Brown and Steve Largent. Don Hutson is currently 10th with 99.
If Evans matches his league-leading 13 TD catches from last season, he would move into sole possession of ninth place. After Brown and Largent’s 100, the next-highest man on the list is Tony Gonzalez with 111 touchdown catches.
Of the players currently in the top-10 of touchdown catches, only Larry Fitzgerald (121) and Antonio Gates (116) are not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gates became eligible last year. Fitzgerald will be eligible when the Hall selectors next vote this winter.

Evans is basically a TD machine. I’m surprised he doesn’t get even more opportunities than he’s had the past couple of years – especially in the red zone.
13TDs last year and he could have had 20 between the couple of drops and Canales almost never calling for back corner end zone throws to Mike which are high % throws even if the chart says 50/50…..
If Evans gets his 1000 yards again this year for the 11th straight season – he will be tied for #1 in consecutive 1000 yard seasons with the greatest receiver of all time – Jerry Rice.
ME would also have 11 straight 1000 yard seasons starting from the very beginning of his career. An NFL record that he alone holds now with 10 and the next closest is Randy Moss with 6. Thats the type of record that may last for generations if not forever. The only 2 active players who have even a slight chance of approaching 10 or 11 straight from the beginning are Justin Jefferson with 4 and JaMar Chase with 3.
