Prospective homes for James Bradberry that make more sense than the Atlanta Falcons
We’re fairly certain you’ve heard the rumors that James Bradberry moved from Philadelphia to Atlanta. Would these places make more sense?
Word spreads quickly in circles tinted with midnight and kelly green. You might have heard. The fans of the Philadelphia Eagles are an avid football team. They are always aware of what their Birds are up to. We therefore presume that you have probably heard some talks regarding James Bradberry.
One year, second-team All-Pro… Next, regressing liability… It wasn’t like he fell off last year. An avalanche caused him to be buried.
Those who opposed him used to sidestep him. They seem to be making fun of him all the time now. If you want proof, watch the Seahawks’ game-winning drive in Seattle last season against the Philadelphia Eagles.
There were rumors he’d be a post-June 1st dismissal. He wasn’t. He skipped OTAs. That’s okay. They were voluntary. When the mandatory minicamp arrived, he was present and cross-trained some at safety… for a little while. During the first practice session open to the media, he left before things got interesting with an injury.
We’ve heard Nick Sirianni praise him, particularly for his versatility. That’s cool, but something tells us that’s some sort of sales tactic being employed just in case the Birds decide they’re going to move off him later.
Recently, the Atlanta Falcons have been named as a possible landing spot, but despite our respect for Raheem Morris, that probably isn’t the best place for him. Gather around. Here are some better options in terms of potential landing spots.
Arizona Cardinals
Here’s some brutal honesty. If you asked us to name ten current Arizona Cardinals and disallowed us to name Kyler Murray and Budda Baker, we aren’t certain that we’d be able to complete the task successfully.
Here’s what we do know. Jonathan Gannon is the head coach and Philly’s former defensive coordinator. It was under J.G. that James earned his first All-Pro nod.
The Cards could certainly use help at cornerback. We’re talking about Sean Murphy-Bunting and rookie Max Melton as potential starters. James may be on the backend of his career, but he has to be better than those guys.
Indianapolis Colts
In keeping with the ‘former relationships’ angle, welcome to the Indianapolis Colts’ portion of our hot take. They’re constantly in the market for former Eagles coaches and players.
Former Eagles OC Shane Steichen is the head coach there and could use some help in the secondary. We’re thinking JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones are the frontrunners to land starting jobs. Ouch…
Las Vegas Raiders
No one overspends on players who are past their prime quite like the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s a part of their DNA.
Just win baby… Try like heck to sign last year’s Super Bowl MVP… Try even harder to add the fastest guy in the NFL Draft… Add players who are past their prime… That friends is the once-proud organization that we have gotten to know over time.
New head coach Antonio Pierce is going to need some defensive punch. He appears vulnerable with Jack Jones and Jakorian Bennett atop his depth chart at corner.
James Bradberry may not be the answer, but he has to be better than those guys, right? Don’t be shocked if Las Vegas comes calling. Their defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham, was Bradberry’s DC during James’ entire run with the New York Giants.
Detroit Lions
They’re a young team on the rise, but they’re vulnerable in their secondary. They may have something with Terrion Arnold. Carlton Davis will probably be the other starter.
The Lions could be a team that shows interest. This one is a wild card (and a long shot), but we’ll see what happens and if either side starts a conversation. This is one of those rosters where James could make the smooth transition to safety… maybe.
The long shot (maybe): Houston Texans
This is another wild card. The Houston Texans have gotten younger and better, but there used to be some mutual interest here. Before James was cut by the Giants, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reported the Texans had agreed to acquire him for a late-round pick.
The details of a new contract couldn’t be ironed out. Things fell through. James was released and landed in Philly. That was a long time ago. Much has changed, but who knows? Howie Roseman can work his magic and dump James on these guys somehow. Fingers are crossed.
Houston signed numerous CBs (Jeff Okudah, Mike Ford, Lonnie Johnson Jr., and C.J. Henderson) a month prior to the draft, then this past April they selected Kamari Lassiter. If the talks we have heard about the potential transition are credible, James might act as a mentor or make the transition to safety.
