Recently, a few former players for the Packers who are also in the Pro Football Hall of Fame have made it their mission to use their platforms and voices to support the induction of one of their former teammates into the Hall of Fame.
Legend of the Green Bay Packers Sterling Sharpe ought to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, according to LeRoy Butler
Many Green Bay Packers supporters feel that veteran wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, who spent seven seasons in the team between 1988 and 1994, ought to have been honored with a posthumous induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame long ago. Safety LeRoy Butler, a former teammate of Sharpe’s, concurs with this assessment. On X, formerly known as Twitter, he recently posted:
Though he was injured, Sharpe would have been a strong contender to be the all-time great wide receiver and is still regarded as one of the best wide receivers in franchise history. In terms of receiving yards (8,134), he is currently third in franchise history, fourth in receiving touchdowns (65), and third in receptions (595).
Brett Favre, the former quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, concurs that Sterling Sharpe ought to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Brett Favre, the renowned quarterback for the Packers and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, also backed Sharpe’s induction bid on social media last week. He declared:
If not for Sterling Sharpe during my first two years of employment, my career would not have been as lengthy or fruitful. In my 20 years as a footballer, Sterling was not just a man among boys, but also one of the sharpest. 84 should definitely be in Canton, in my opinion. An injury to the neck ended his career! 84HOF.
Packers legend Gilbert Brown agrees. Last year, he told radio host Earl Ingram:
“It’s so many just politics, man. Why does it take so long for Jerry Kramer to get in? Why does it take so long for LeRoy Butler to get in? I mean, 75 [NFL anniversary team], all that stuff that he was one. But the thing that is most disappointing thing I talk to everybody about is I am so p—ed off that Sterling Sharpe has not been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.
“He’s in the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, that’s good. But to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, why is that? His numbers: beautiful. His tenacity on the field: beautiful. I don’t know what he did to p— somebody off, but I am shocked, ashamed that he is not in the NFL Hall of Fame.”
